To set up; to originate; to initiate; to start; to introduce. To nominate, constitute, or appoint, as to institute an heir by testament.

Act of instituting; something that is instituted. A principle recognized as authoritative; also the organization which drafts and authors such authoritative principles; e.g. American Law Institute.
